Lucky Reel ShortFest is not about competition. There are no awards, no rankings, no industry panels. Every decision what screens, how it's programmed, how the room is set up is made so the audience can fully experience the work.

The first Lucky Reel ShortFest was designed entirely for the audience, 80 minutes of carefully selected work, no interruptions, no Q&As. Just cinema. Local Houston filmmakers screened alongside voices from across the world, and the room felt it.

The night closed with a live table read of Turnt, a first draft script by Houston writer Jonathan Alvarado, performed by a live cast in the room. It was a great night. The first of many.

The evening also included the Houston premiere of Wings, a short film by Vanessa Monique Provencio, screened as part of a Houston Arts Alliance grant.
